What is Relay for Life?
Downtown West Palm Beach Relay for Life unites people in our community for an amazing, one-of-a-kind event that raises money to prevent cancer, diminish suffering and save lives. At the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, volunteers gather to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and empower survivors, families and communities to fight back. Relay For Life is a spirited, overnight event where teams camp out and take part in a non-competitive relay race. The event kicks off with a survivors' lap to celebrate these heroes' strength and courage. At nightfall, luminarias line the track, and relayers observe a moment of silence to honor those who are battling cancer and remember those lost to the disease. Throughout the night, teams keep one person on the track, as Relayers participate in games and activities that build camaraderie with other teams. Teams build campsites that range from simple to fun to over-the-top. The event is emotional. It's fun. It's life changing. |
